Bit Type - Diamond coated grinding bit, approximately 5mm in diameter. Did not use helical entry or toroidal pathing. Default linear pathing was used instead. Pathing was determined by SVG vector lines requiring an engraving function. To avoid deflection and breaking of the bit, lower horizontal and vertical feeds and speeds were used and gradually increased to 75.00 mm/min.

Make sure that after programming the engraving operation that you dress it up and add a ramping function. The ramping should be set to 85 degrees.

The base Horiz Feed rate is 75 mm/min. Using the override functions, you can increase the feeds by 50% without any consequences. Further testing was not possible due to time constraints so please proceed with caution.

Feeds and Speeds - Horiz Feed: 75 mm/min - Vert Feed: 15 mm/min - Horiz Rapid: 2000.00 mm/min - Vert Rapid: 2000.00 mm/min - Spindle Speed: 10,800

Bit type - Diamond coated grinding bit, 4mm diameter (aproximately 1 usd)

CAM settings in FreeCAD for adaptive clearing of pockets

  • Helical entry feedrate (plunge feedrate): 500mm/m
  • Helical entry ramp angle: 2 degrees
  • Feedrate during adaptive clearing: 500mm/m
  • Step over during adative clearing: 10%
  • Pass depth: 3mm

Note: With the shopbot we achieved at least 10x the material removal rate compared to on the Lunyee. And it sounded like a purring cat :)
