Reflow Practice

( Written by Yosuke Tsuchiya Fab Lab Kamakura)

Just a note that I practice reflow.

Practice Board Fabrication

Here, I fabricated a couple of t3224-MU board for practice. Make sure to sanding and washing after finished laser engraving.

Practice 1. Heat-and-Squish

Put solder paste on the mount.

Then, put the parts on the solder paste.

Now, starting reflow. Keypoint: Gradually move closer from a distance. Do not suddenly bring the hot air nozzle close to the part.

Result is here:

Practice 2: tin-and-heat

First, put (normal) solder on the mount.

Then, starting reflow.

It is important to hold a parts to solder with tweezers.

The result is here:

Finally, I could get used to both way for reflow soldering. It was very useful time for me because I have still never experienced reflow soldering.

Equipments

Equipments that I used here (that is required in our lab)....

Solder station.

Microscope. It is very important to observe the detail of the soldering conditions...

Solder paste.

Tweezer is very important to hold quite small parts for soldering.
