For week 8, the class explores the open source hardware field and focuses on its potential in the area of textiles. I had an interest in weaving and creating a DIY loom. It was interesting in using new technologies to explore old techniques.
In order to look at integrating new technologies with old techniques, I explored creating a Laser Cut Mini Fraome Loom. It is inspired by The Interlace Project, which their misssion is to make weaving more accesible by designing open-source weavin looms.
I was interested in looms so I chose to do a Mini-Frame Loom that I found on Instrucatbles from The Interlace Project. I followed their video tutorial to weave yarn.
I followed the directions and the video of The Interlace Project to create teh Mini-Frame Loom and weave.
I created my cloth with three different types of yarn. It was interesting to use old techniques but was able to showcase it in an accessible and readily available away. The Interlace Project created a loom that made it so that anyone who wanted to explore weaving and design could do it without the intimidation of heavy machinery and building.
