"BIO SHAKE"

Bio Shake concept has been changing since I started Fabricademy. At the beginning was more focused on the machine development and was more a tool for labs to incubate microorganisms.

At this point is a system that provides to the user an appropriate experience to incubate successfully microorganisms.

The business model of making an open source device couldn’t be based economically on the selling it.

Because someone with mass production capabilities could take the idea and compete directly with you and you will need better industrial and selling capabilities to compete with him. This problem origin another effort to understand what is the main point of “bio shake” something.

“BioShake” need appear when someone needs to maintain alive some microorganism in a biolab.

This someone is my target. Bio enthusiasts.

Bio enthusiasts could be students, researchers, biologist, makers, designers or fabbers who want to start on the process of incubating or need some guidance.

BioShake is a physical and digital platform to incubate microorganism in your home or biolab. It is friendly with user and it is capable to give real-time information and guidance around incubation microorganism process. It provides the user security and an enjoyable experience for maintaining alive the MicroPets.

According this class, UPPSS encloses a product with these levels:

1- Personalization at a product level: digital material production

user can produce it

2- Personalization at a systems level: generative design and fit

users can generate a pattern that fit in

3- Personalization at a service level: end user programing

user can program or change parameters to have a better experience

BioShake covers 1st level because opensource feature, 2nd level is not covered because it design is not parametric at the moment but it could be, 3rd level will be covered when user can change or safe incubation workflow process.

One of the main personalization level BioShake has is the fact that it can track microorganism growth by it webcam and guide the user. It is the more value feature of the product.

Fortunately I am in touch with some scientist in the city and I have provided them this tools. Most of them really need to track everything around them experiments and they will really appreciate if they can have a real time interaction with the incubator and microorganisms.

Conclusions

I have find Ultra-personalized product service systems (UPPSS) as a super interesting concept for developing products because now world is globalized and it is almost impossible to protect ideas and control how is producing what. The products for this century need different ways to show and provide value. Personalization is a good way to maintain a global business model and it has been interesting to see many different ways to apply personalization features to products. This class helped me to take my project to next step. Thanks for sharing this concepts.
