Probe an input device(s)’s analog levels and digital signals

We used an oscilloscope and a multimeter to probe the signals on both an analog (potentiometer) and digital (button) input device.

Button

We probed the signals from a button when it was open and pressed to see the signal go to ground when the button was pressed.

Potentiometer

A potentiometer is essentially a variable resistor; the resistance changes when the dial is spun. We tested the output of the device when we twisted the dial, to see the value change in real time.
